Ok - my new couch. Yep I classify that in this category - at least for my area, my friends... It's an espresso color, semi-contemporary couch. It's not a standard, mass produced, run up to your local furniture store type couch. I love that. Of course it took me 3 years to find it - that's the downside of not conforming to the norm.
Another thing, the new puppy. I wouldn't consider an English Bulldog a normal dog. Mutts yes. Golden Retrievers yes. Bulldogs not quite. Although not as "outside" as a Chinese Crested Hairless dog would be (man they must get cold!). But still a bit different, a bit unique.
Ok my drapes. I have silk striped drapes in my family room that in some lights appear green and orange. I have deep purple walls. Doesn't match (one would think) but with the lighting in our family room it coordinates well (not quite sure how that works out but it does). So the colors are a bit out there and silk is definitely out of the norm for most of my friends. Purple walls are out there as well. (It will all look so striking with my new couch though. Can't wait to share soon!!!) What's also crazy about this is I'm not a silk person - or at least I wouldn't have classified myself as one. I'm a sweatshirt, warm-up pants, funky socks type of person. But I'm sooooo drawn to it now it's ridiculous. If it's not silk I just pass it by. Must be a phase.
I feel better. I have been thinking outside the box (at least my box). Always trying to challenge myself to do something just a little bit different. Put my own spin on things. Not be afraid to try something or get something others don't have. It's rubbing off on my kids also. I've received several comments from friends and acquaintances that they recognize and admire my boys abilities to be themselves. They do what they want and they are confident in their decisions. Most kids their ages are fully conforming to their peers - I know I sure did. I hope this continues to be a positive thing and doesn't come back to bite me in the butt some day. Positive thinking - it will continue to be a good thing!
So, I now challenge you to go out today and think outside your box. Go have some fun!
